ShadeTree Multicultural Foundation

Creating Vital Agreements of The Heart
ShadeTree Multicultural Foundation is a 501(C)(3) non-profit public charity funded by the generous donations of its supporters.
Current efforts are underway at ShadeTree to establish the infrastructure of the organization from being mostly a volunteer based network to becoming economically self-sufficient and concentrating our work locally.
We hope, through more direct funding, ShadeTree would be in the position to work more specifically with a local population of youth to further develop its mission of providing a holistic model for youth and community development. The current cultural climate of escalating youth violence in the city of Los Angeles, as a result of radical national and local economic policies, requires our reassessment of the work we have done and to position our resources into strategic directions. We would like to develop the means to bring many of the youth with whom we have worked over the past eight years into a collective work process, supported by a local economy in order to reverse the escalating despair and death among youth.
For several years, Orland Bishop has worked with the Collaboration for Healing and Transforming Money in Society, an initiative developed by the Rudolph Steiner Foundation, Fetzer Institute, Whidby Institute and the Marion Institute in early 2001. This led to the gathering on Money, Wealth and Philanthropy and current working groups on healing and transforming money. This project invites us at ShadeTree to participate in the research and development of ways of integrating into our local economies of community life the best practices around money and to cultivate in our youth an attitude of participation based on civility and ethical leadership. As this work continues, it validates that we must establish, as a part of our mission, the capacity of supporting the emerging cultural values that will support a sustainable global vision.
Our present focus is to develop a full management and development team to facilitate forming and implementing our strategic goals. This will be developed in phases as we continue our mentoring obligations, development of the World Community Institute, and exploration of the creation of a residential youth group home.
